As a volunteer for Home-Start you help parents and their children during a more difficult period. You check in with them weekly, share your time and attention and bring some mental and physical support into the situation. The parents really thrive and feel heard and seen. Parenting is easier when you can (temporarily) do it together.
Omschrijving activiteit
'Thanks to Jenny my family feels more at home in the Netherlands'. Parents coming from a foreign country have extra questions about their new situation. As a volunteer you support potentially refugee families or other families with a migration background. De parent can confide in you about the challenges they face in a new country: a different style of raising children, different traditions or cultural background, learning the language or organisational questions. For example: What expectations does the school have for my children and me? The family misses having their relatives and friends from home near and can find a warm connection in their contact with you as a volunteer. Together you can discover how to extend their social network further and help the family feel more at home.
